How to Forecast Upcoming Credential Renewals
How to look ahead and spot busy renewal periods before they arrive, instead of reacting one at a time.
Renewal deadlines aren't evenly distributed across the year — some months are quiet, others cluster. Forecasting ahead lets you plan for busy periods instead of being surprised by them.
1. Pull expiration dates for the year ahead
Start with a complete list of upcoming expiration dates across your team — this is the raw data any forecast is built on.
2. Group by month to spot clustering
Once grouped, patterns usually become obvious — maybe several licenses renew every January, or a training cohort's certifications all expire around the same time each year.
3. Plan around your busiest months
For a month with heavy renewal activity, consider scheduling training sessions in advance, budgeting for related costs, or arranging temporary coverage if renewals might briefly affect staffing.
4. Revisit the forecast regularly
A forecast is only useful if it's current — update it as new employees join, credentials change, or renewal patterns shift, rather than treating it as a one-time exercise.
